How I work

Claude Code is open all day. This is what it is for.

Most of what follows is the set of rules I have written to stop Claude flattering me, and the routines I run my week on.

The week

Each morning a check-in skill reads my project boards and my life backlog and gives me a day plan for the hours I have. Each week a roll-up updates the Notion boards for Draped and Fold, rewrites the hub page for the week ahead, and refuses to downgrade anything already marked done. Both are skill files in plain markdown, and I rewrite them when they stop being useful.

The writing rule

I got fed up with Claude saying "quietly" everywhere. So I wrote a skill that holds my writing rules, built by comparing its drafts against my own rewrites and writing down every difference. A few of them:

En dashes, never em dashes.

No "it's not X, it's Y". State the two things as separate claims.

No list of three where the third item is a flourish.

No one-line summary sentence capping a paragraph. Let the evidence land it.

Every rule in the file came from a real draft I did not want to send.

The honesty rule

These models are trained to agree with you. I type "be honest with me, dial it down" often enough that it is now written into the rules, and on anything that matters I form my own view cold before I read the model's. Its job is coverage, not conviction.

Photograph to come.

How Draped gets built

Draped is about 370 commits since May 2026, all mine, with Claude Code as the pair. The pattern is the same one I used at Tesco. I run a thing by hand before I automate it, and I built the QA loop before I trusted the engine. There is a labelling page, a scoring script that reports precision and recall against the labelled set, A/B knobs behind a flag, and a set of seam strips I judge by eye when the numbers disagree with what I can see. When the phone app started running hot, I had it keep a heat ledger before I let it change its own pacing.
